The Department of Planning and Building Control is responsible for ensuring that all development is done in accordance with the applicable legislation, as well as the Council-approved Town Planning Schemes.
Functions of the Building Section:
- Evaluation of building plan applications
- Inspections of building premises at building sites iro foundations, sewerage and building line restrictions.
- Issuing of occupation certificates
- Control – lllegal construction
- Control over advertising signs and standard regulations on advertising signs and the defacing of street fronts (PN 593 of 1958 as amended ) and Council's policy on advertisings signs (SAMOAC).
Applicable building regulations are the National Building Regulations (SABS 0400) read in conjunction with the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act 103 of 1977 (as amended).

Please note
- Building applications must be submitted for all construction work, including boundary walls, interior changes, pools etc.
- Building plans must be submitted in three-fold of which 2 copies must be in colour.
- A copy of your title deed must accompany the building plans.
